GCP Next, held in March 2016, is the signature Google event focused on the Google Cloud Platform (GCP) technology, users and developers. The GCP Next "Extended" series of events is run by Google Developer Communities worldwide to provide local developers and enthusiasts a chance to network, learn and explore these features in person.

At the GCP Next Extended "Hudson Valley" event, we are excited to have two key speakers from Google -- Yufeng Guo and Bret McGowen. Both Yufeng and Bret are Developer Advocates at Google, and will be here to talk about Machine Learning, Computer Vision and the capabilities and evolution of the Google Cloud Platform. This is a unique chance to experience signature demos like Google Cloud Spin and the Vision Bot in person.

Come check out the  Google Cloud Spin Demo where you can create your own180-degree Matrix moment and learn the behind-the-scenes story of how the demo was created.

We will also be doing a Firebase Study Jam Info Session -- learn about the upcoming 6-8 week study session that will build on the earlier Android Study Jam by providing attendees an opportunity to complement their front-end Android apps with a Firebase back-end that can provide real-time database, authentication and hosting support for their apps.

Admission is free but you MUST RSVP to attend.

Featured Speakers

Yufeng Guo

Yufeng is a Developer Advocate at Google, working with the Google Cloud Team in NYC.

Seeing in the Cloud: An Introduction to Computer Vision as an API

Machine learning was formerly the exclusive territory of researchers and domain experts, but no longer! In this talk, you will learn about how computer vision, powered by machine learning is being democratized and is now available on any platform that can make a REST API call. From the smallest electronic devices to the largest web apps, computer vision has a wide range of possibilities: recognizing objects, reading text, understanding facial expressions and more. What will you build with this new superpower?

Bret McGowen

Bret is a Developer Advocate at Google, working with the Cloud Team in NYC.

Stopping Time with the Power of the Cloud

Bret McGowen walks through several features of Google Cloud Platform while showing off a demo (Google Cloud Spin) built to display a frozen-in-time 180 degree video. The demo uses an orchestrated set of smartphones to capture multi-angle views of the same moment which are then uploaded to the cloud and are stitched together to create a "spinning" 180-degree video.

GOOGLE VISION BOT DEMO

"The Vision Bot or vBot is an interactive robot that reacts to you based on your emotions. Although both seemingly cute and creative, the brains behind its functionality is the real topic of conversation.

Based on Google Cloud Vision API, vBot is powered by the same system that intuitively groups, catalogs, and sorts through photos on Google Photos....

According to their team, vBot was built on a Raspberry Pi base, and with just a few hundred lines of Python code and the Vision API, it was ready for action." (Read More Here)
